Disaster
[edit]This article is a mess. It's not like there's exactly a shortage of independent sources about AMORC, and yet we barely cite them. Christ. PARAKANYAA (talk) 14:45, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- The more I look into this article the worse it gets. I am going to nuke it and start over with secondary sources, because god it's so bad why are we uncritically accepting this group's extraordinary claims PARAKANYAA (talk) 05:58, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have nuked it and started over. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:09, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

AMORC is really not an OTO spin-off 😅
[edit]Hello! I was a bit surprised by this paragraph:
"...Many aspects of its teachings and symbolism are taken from other occult groups that H. Lewis had frequented. Chief among these is the Ordo Templi Orientis, led by Aleister Crowley...."
While it's true that H. Spencer Lewis and Crowley were contemporaries (and may even have met once) it's a bit of a stretch to say that AMORC teachings are based on OTO ones.
AMORC's training is mainly gnostic mysticism, similar to Martinism but without the religious elements. OTO's is mostly practical theurgy with a partiucular focus on sex magic (and Crowley's ego and need for funding 😁) Jeremytarling (talk) 20:47, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
- That section was mostly about how Lewis took the symbols. I may have phrased it in a way where it is overemphasizing the ideological elements. Will look into it again sometime - I had to rewrite the article entirely with little outside input because it was very poor before, so it is probably flawed. Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis → AMORC – The common name for the group is the acronym. They changed what it stood for literally dozens of times, it just calls itself AMORC, it has multiple commonly used variants in different languages. This is evidenced by the fact that every time it is brought up in full in the article it uses a different version of what it stands for. The only common version is the acronym.
